What is the SOP? A Summer Orlando Project is nine weeks of the summer in Orlando, living, playing, working and learning with other college students. Each student works a full time job during the day and participates in evangelistic outreaches, Bible studies, discipleship groups, ministry training, fellowship, and other activities during the week. This demanding and challenging schedule creates a perfect environment for students to grow in their relationship with Christ and develop ministry skills and leadership qualities.
What are the dates of the SOP? May 28th - July 29th Why do the participants work? During Summer Orlando Project, students work because it is an invaluable learning experience. The jobs are part of the summer program designed to teach responsibility, dependability and to expose students to the real world through a secular job. Campus Outreach has already made contact with SeaWorld where a majority of the students will work in Orlando. Students may also work at Chick-Fil-A this summer. Upon acceptance and confirmation to the project, SeaWorld representatives will interview participants for a job. What else will we do? Besides working a job and being involved with project activities, students will be worshipping and working with area churches. This gives students an opportunity to learn and serve in the context of a local church. What is the housing situation? All students attending the project from CO Raleigh & CO Florida will live together in The Suites at Old Town Hotel in Kissimmee, FL. Contacts have already been made with this hotel, local churches, and employers for the summer. What is the cost? The cost of the SOP is $1450. This includes rent and all project fees as well as the cost of some meals (at least one dinner per week) and other special events. Each student will work a full time job. Depending on the job, students could earn up to 80% of the cost of the project. Students may also raise support to cover the cost of the project, but it is not mandatory. However we recommend that students raise support to help cover the cost of SOP because of the faith building experience it offers, the opportunity for friends and family to be a part of what God is doing, and the opportunity to help minimize the cost of the summer. Who sponsors the project? Campus Outreach is an interdenominational ministry to college students that seeks to Glorify God by building laborers on the campus for the lost world. Campus Outreach Raleigh (COR) is under the supervision of Summit Church in Durham, NC and Campus Outreach Florida (COF) is under the supervision of Christ Community Church in Daytona Beach, FL. |
